We were fortunate to have the First Territorial Census of Oklahoma survive the loss of nearly all of the 1890 census documents. Amongst them was a Black Homesteader named Daniel Boone — no likely relationship to the famous Longhunter — who served his country in Company G, Kansas Cavalry Volunteers.
In the 1850s graduation poem book of Eljatha Agatha Perry, a friend signed only as "Amanda V. B. F." from Swains Mills, Rush Co., Indiana. Using traditional genealogy methods — census records, old land maps, and community connections — we trace her identity and her surprising family ties to Eljatha.
